Depending on the electron beam energy (– GeV) and the collider mode (ep or γp.

    A model of the real photon structure function F 2 γ which can be used in the low Q 2, low x region is includes both the VMD and the QCD components, the latter based on arbitrary parton distributions in the photon and suitably extrapolated to the low Q 2 region. The model using the GRV and GRS’ parton densities describes reasonably well the existing high energy data on F 2 γ. The resulting distributions extend over large distances, reflecting primarily the partonic structure of the photon in the very small x region, i.e. the virtual photon fluctuates into a pair. This effect is usually saturated by the vector meson dominance (VMD) model.
